In automotive paint shops, the pretreatment degreasing stage decides how well the later coating layers adhere and how the finished vehicle looks. It is the critical front-end step that protects overall paint yield. Drawing oils, rust-preventive oils, metal fines and rust products clinging to the workpiece surface are continuously stripped off during pre-degreasing and main degreasing and carried into the bath, where iron swarf, iron oxide and other solid particles keep building up in the degreasing tank. The consequences follow quickly: spray nozzles clog and pump impellers wear out; contaminants redeposit onto the part surface and trigger batch defects such as craters, pinholes and film inclusions, driving rework rates up. On top of that, the degreasing chemicals age and lose effectiveness faster, bath change intervals shorten, and chemical consumption together with hazardous waste disposal costs rise accordingly.
How the Degreasing Bath Filtration Process Works
Feature-Tec, drawing on many years of filtration and separation know-how, offers a degreasing bath filtration solution that covers the full span from pre-degreasing to main degreasing. It holds back solid contaminants and removes magnetic particles, keeping the bath on a closed circulation loop, while balancing process stability, finished-part yield and the push for greener, lower-cost operation.
Bath liquor is drawn from the degreasing tank by the mother-liquor circulation pump, then passes through: Pre-filtration unit → Ferroclean magnetic filter (removes ferromagnetic particles) → fine filtration unit → clean bath returns to the degreasing tank. In the pre-degreasing stage the magnetic filter takes the lead, capturing the bulk of the iron swarf and mill scale, with a bag filter installed downstream as a guard filter. In the main degreasing stage, a high dirt-holding-capacity filter cartridge serves as the primary filter and the magnetic unit plays a supporting role. Contaminants of different particle sizes are intercepted in stages, creating true gradient filtration so that no single stage is overloaded and the filter media does not blind prematurely.
