In the early fall of 1980, I was a 17 year-old bursting with joy at the chance of studying outside my province as I clutched the admission papers of my university. By my side was my father, lugging his camphor chest, silently supportive. 

Standing at the outskirts of Shanghai on a high bridge four years later when I was assigned to work there, with the early sun just above the horizons, I made an determined wish �C through my efforts, to own a Santana luxury car.

Fast forward to eleven years later, when I was already a senior management at a public company and with the encouragement of family and friends, I gave up all that was familiar and comfortable to me �C my salary, position and social circles �C and made a decision: together with my brother, we would create and manage a new company to provide filtration and separation solutions.

Feature-Tec (Shanghai) Co Pte Ltd was born! We made a bold wish: to achieve 100 million worth of sales in 10 years!

Our dreams were big and the journey was never smooth; in its fledgling days, it was staffed by no more than a few as our company''s pioneers �C Da Qing, Zhai Yong Tao, Feng Yong Sheng, Wang Yong, Chen Ying and Shu Xia - only gradually joined us over the years and have been with us ever since.

In the early summer of 2003, even in the midst of an ongoing onslaught of bigger companies, we decided to give up the sole distributorship rights to be the largest distributor of filtration equipment and went ahead with our plans to build Feature-Tec''s own plant in our quest to be original equipment manufacturers and make "Feature" an admired brand name.

We will never forget the first order that we receive: it was a project from Honda in Guangzhou. We would also never forget the sweat and toil of the our pioneers - Zhai Yong Tao, Zhang Guang He, Liu Fa Jun, Peng Li Hua, Bao Li Fang, Mao De Quan and Luo Yu Bing - that our first 4-filter filtration machine was produced only after 2 weeks of hard work.

Now, under the leadership of these same group of pioneers, our annual production capabilities now number in the thousands.

In the fall of 2007, to expand our product lines and to adopt green technology,
Feature-Tec invested in a precision manufacturing plant called Shanghai FineTec Precision Technology Co., Ltd, specialising in the research and development of filtration equipment and parts. Spearheaded by a brilliant core team overlooking its construction and design and a 3 year period of R&D, FineTec has introduced multiple filtration products into the marketplace and for its innovation and efforts, was recognised in 2010 as one of Shanghai''s high-tech enterprises. 2011 is looking up as another year of exponential margins. 

This year also saw one of the greatest challenges faced by our company.

In our investments, we have committed to building two factories, in Wuxi and Gaoyou. Upon completion, the new plant in Wuxi was officially recognised as a ''Green Technology Enterprise'', portending immense business opportunities as well as challenges.

In our management level, we have streamlined our operation processes by introducing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solutions in the pursuit of higher productivity and efficiency.

In the development of human capital, Feature-Tec is aggressively recruiting talents and training its staff with the practice of just-in-time (JIT) learning to help them apply what they learnt immediately in the workplace so as to boost personal and company''s levels of performance.

Change is inevitable. Feature-Tec innovates continuously and is nearing completion of a full suite of filtration solutions for all our distributors, especially in the area of water filtration, and is already reaping handsome rewards from our efforts.

My personal life goal has now become inconsequential in the pursuit of bigger dreams. My new goal is now to help everyone in the company to reach their fullest potential in the service of the greater good of our community as well as the people in the community of our customers. This is to realize our company principle of "Mutual Respect, Creativity, Excellence". This is the real me, a once-ignorant youth''s newfound goal in life!
